Candidate for School Trustee
Greater Victoria School District 61 (SD61 - Area 5 - Victoria)
-
Support every student
-
Back our Teachers and Staff
-
Double out-of-school care capacity
I'm running for School Trustee in the Greater Victoria School District (SD61), representing Electoral Area 5, which covers the City of Victoria. I believe that every role matters in our schools. Inclusive learning environments, support for all students, teachers and support staff, and a School Board who is there for families and listens to the community forms the foundation of my platform.
Victoria is home for my family and me. We have built our lives here, raised our children here, and are proud to be part of the SD61 community. My wife is a teacher, and our two children love their time at school.
Over the past several months, I have been listening to residents across Victoria about what is working well in our schools, where families and staff need more support, and how the Greater Victoria School District can continue to build trust with the community. I would be grateful to hear from more people in Victoria — your ideas, concerns, feedback, and lived experiences all matter.
My Priorities
I've spent much of my life in Victoria and our community and schools are why I am running. As a trustee I want to focus on what matters most: students, teachers and staff, and families. These are my three main priorities:
Every Student Belongs & Has the Opportunity to Succeed
---
Safe, inclusive schools
Supporting diverse learning needs and abilities
Indigenous and 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion, with SOGI integration and commitment to Truth and Reconciliation
Music, arts and exploratory programs
Support the People Who Support Our Students
---
Backing teachers, EAs and support staff and consulting with unions prior to decisions
Advocating for staffing and class size/composition
Providing classroom support and prioritizing workplace health and safety
Pushing for living wages for EAs and ECEs, including the Seamless Day model
A School District That Listens & Supports Our Families
---
Double capacity with district-operated affordable out-of-school care for families
Responsible and transparent spending
Open houses and advisory committees
Ensuring public input changes decisions
School trustee decisions must lead to measurable improvements in our schools, keeping students and staff at the centre. This commitment begins by actively listening to students, families, teachers, school support staff, and the community here in Victoria.
Throughout my career, my leadership experience has spanned roles as a director in the BC public service, an environmental engineer in the private sector, an instructor at a school board, political advocacy work as a volunteer at Engineers Without Boards, as well as an active PAC member within SD61.
